10 years at GLOBAL Opportunities!

Back in 1998, while Ari Rocklin was working in Europe promoting tentmaking he contacted GO for advice. As his work came to an end there in 1999, Dave English invited him to join Global Opportunities as mobilizer. That was 10 years ago, and Ari now celebrates this milestone in his life by sharing what God has done through GO this past decade. He had the privilege of working at GO while Ruth Siemens was still involved and believes it is vitally important to continue her inspiring legacy.

The unsung heroes

You need to know that house churches are being planted, in some of the most hostile to Christianity places on earth, because of your strategic giving and the training GO provides.

These many stories are ongoing and can not be published, indeed not being able to share them with you is a struggle for GO staff.

First email from GO in 1998

Recently, while Ari was reviewing emails he found the first email correspondence with GO. The challenge in 1998 was a shortage of funds in being able to respond to the many opportunities coming their way. In 2009, the funding level remains basically the same. We have much work to do and need your help!
 

Seminars & Courses

In 2002, the first tentmaking seminar was launched in Victoria BC, Ari’s hometown. Since then 1489 people in 7 countries have attended these tentmaking events, which in turn have brought people to GO/TENT courses.
490 people from 32 countries have now attended these courses.

Tentmaking Briefs TMB

GO World, edited by Dave English, remains the only print publication focused on tentmaking and business as mission issues. Earlier this year, Tentmaking Briefs (TMB) was launched as a monthly email newsletter and is now closing in on 1900 subscribers. All together, GO Publications are reaching some 8000 subscribers. Hundreds more simply download these and other resources from our website.

Primary Staff Activities

GO staff, Dave, Phill & Ari now spends the majority of their time mentoring individuals in their journey to the nations via email, phone calls, meetings and conferences. This continues once tentmakers are out there and long after they return. This in turn gives GO staff a good perspective on the real challenges tentmakers face, and keeps GO training current and in touch with today’s realities.

NEW Logo for a NEW Decade!

We are thankful to Antturi Design for their patient pro bono work with the GO team in designing a new logo. We trust you like it as much as we do.

 

The next 10 years

Through our extensive and ongoing research of tentmakers that we are helping and those out there serving, we know that we can do better and reach even further.

The world is quickly going to social networking and on demand video, so we will need to make GO vital in this generation as well. Video production is expensive but delivering it to the world is relatively inexpensive. A home made basic CD of our course material has already been distributed to over 1000 people in Africa, imagine what a well implemented DVD video of our seminar and course could do?

Free ONLINE tentmaking seminar

This is one of our top priorities, since a seminar is often the starting point for many. If we can get this three session seminar available on demand, at our website, we believe the seeds will be planted and follow through to our courses will result.

2 week curriculum tentmaking course                          ONLINE

Once the videotaping has been completed and edited the next step will be to integrate it into an online tentmaking course. Again, our research showed an overwhelming interest in a GO produced and run, online tentmaking course. Once the course development costs are covered, this course will produce much needed income. However, we need an initial $10,000 to get this project off the ground.

GO/TENT Alliance 

In 2000, a new tentmaking agency in Norway called TENT was being developed, and with the assistance of GO, it was launched in the fall of that year. The GO/TENT alliance has allowed us to reach more people and regions in mobilizing and training new tentmakers.

OUR APPEAL TO YOU

Most of you receiving this letter have been faithful in the past and privileged to steward significant giving into the Lord's kingdom through GLOBAL Opportunities. 

Usually our year-end appeal is for those dollars that will end up in taxes if not given into the Kingdom. We do need and appreciate those dollars!

During these financially stressed times you may not be able to give as much this year.  We are also aware that most supporters of GO's Ministry can't write the big checks, because we live our financial lives on a monthly basis. 

Yet even so we can still be significant as electronic monthly stewards.  Over time, our "Friends of GLOBAL Opportunities" electronic partners have become a significant resource as our big check writers! 
Monthly faithfulness is our greatest need.

Perhaps, in lieu of that year-end check this year, you would become an "eFriend of GO" electronic monthly partner?  You can still write checks as the Lord leads and provides over time but you would be assuring us each month of the reliable funding that lets us focus on ministry, not fundraising, day in and out. 

The amount?

That is between you and the Lord.  Checking accounts are best, if you can, but credit card giving has benefits for you as well.
